I was doing some grocery shopping today, when I noticed a little boy (4-6yo) that was away from his parents, behaving suspiciously. I soon found out why- I watched him give his older sister (8-9 yo) a devilish look, then pull an extra large wad of gum out of his mouth , and finally watched him fling it onto a shelf. He did not tuck it under the shelf, no, he threw it right next to the green olives. He then walked back to his mother.
So what did I do, you ask? I went over to the mother, simply stated, "Do you realize your son just threw a wad of gum onto the shelves?" Mom quickly replied that she did not and turned to talk to child. I walked off, but was still in the aisle with the offending gum.....where I was the only one for the next 5 minutes. She did not make her child clean it up nor did she clean it up herself! What is wrong with people today? Is there no personal responsibility? What kind of lesson does this teach the child?

This is why I'm a litterbug and shopping cart nazi. It all comes down to personal responsibility, and the lack of it. Just this morning, the mayor of our town flung garbage out of his luxury car onto the parking lot of the local McDonald's, even though a trash can was 7 feet away!
We are a rare breed Dawn!
